According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) 10.8 days per employee per annum are lost to sickness absence in care services and managers often tell us that they find the task of managing repeated short term sickness challenging. The great news is that line managers are in a unique position to positively influence employees’ attendance at work .

Pivotal HR Host Brand New HR Network Exchange
Last month saw the very first of Pivotal HR’s new quarterly HR Network Exchange events, hosted on the 22nd September at The Bridge, SE1.
Taking place each quarter, these events will bring together key members of the HR community working in the social care sector. The HR Network Exchange has been created in order to provide shared ideas, information and advice between similar organisations facing the same HR challenges.
At the first event, representatives from Safer London, Mencap, QVT, House of St Barnabas and Women and Girls Network debated and discussed a range of topical HR subjects including the complexities of annual leave and the use of a shared online HR handbook. The session also ran a taster of values based training for all the delegates as well as several breakout sessions.
Designed and hosted by Pivotal HR, a leading provider of specialist HR expertise to the social care sector over the last 9 years, the next one will take place on January 17th at The Bridge. The open format allows everyone to suggest topics for the following event that will help them in their full-time role.
The feedback from the first event has been excellent,
“I really enjoyed the session. Going forward it will give us an opportunity to share info & experiences and be briefed about new legislation - and also allow us to ask all those questions we might be afraid to ask otherwise!”
Miriam, Lambeth Mencap
The next event is on Tuesday, 17th January 2017. Places are limited so please do get in touch to book yours as soon as possible. The event is free to attend and you need to work in an HR role in the social care sector to join us.

IT and social media are powerful resources for social care bringing great benefits but also new risks. Should staff accept friend requests from people who use services? Can you discipline a member of staff for writing a critical blog post about your organisation? Can staff use their personal mobile devices at work?
